What I'm Up To
Thijs VerreckOver the years I’ve realized I’m most drawn to building tools that let people be more creative or build new things.
I started early. While studying at Imperial College and Delft University of Technology, I ran a small boutique agency. We worked on whatever felt like the frontier at the time — including some early NLP projects — and built software for companies ranging from banks to SaaS startups. Looking back, that was the best education I could have had. Running a business as a student forces you to learn fast, work directly with customers, and figure out how to ship under pressure.
Since then, I’ve stayed at the intersection of engineering and design. I’ve built everything from sync engines and infrastructure to front-end systems and UI libraries. The pattern is always the same: I like building the underlying tools that make other people more effective.
What I’m Working On
Prototyper
I’m currently focussed on building Prototyper — the best tool for turning ideas into software quickly. It’s born out of a belief that creating software shouldn’t be limited to a small group of specialists. We're building the primitives to let LLMs ship great software.
Wavyr
Before that, I built Wavyr, a low-code platform in TypeScript, aimed at making complex application development more intuitive and accessible. Tinkered a lot with custom React build pipelines, HMR and integrations.
Past Projects
Earlier on, I worked on conversational AI while at university. Through my boutique agency I was able to work with international brands, from finance (Rabobank), to SaaS, to B2C. It gave me early exposure to AI, product development, and design.
Academic Background
I studied AI and financial mathematics at Imperial College London, and systems engineering and computer science at Delft University of Technology. What stuck with me from that mix is the value of different lenses. I try to combine approaches from multiple domains whenever I build something. That’s often how you end up with tools that don’t just function, but actually change how people work.
Outside of Work
When I’m not building, I read a lot (both fiction and non-fiction) or do endurance sports like running, cycling, and swimming. I have completed an Ironman 70.3, a marathon and several other endurance events. Those are my ways of thinking deeply and resetting.
